In February, our team from CBC News spent just over a week in Nuuk, Greenland, reporting on the response of Greenlanders to the threats from the United States to “take over” the world’s largest island. Even though Donald Trump’s rhetoric peaked and then receded, what was striking is how shaken people there continue to be by what many characterize as “bullying”. None felt the crisis has passed. All felt Greenlanders needed to assert their independence and right to self-determination more than ever. It was impressive to meet so many people who spoke about this in strikingly eloquent terms. Some of them you’ll see in the doc we did for The National, which is below. Along the way, we met many enthusiastic CBC watchers from Nunavik, Northern Quebec who flew in on a charter flight to cheer the opening of a Canadian consulate in the Greenland capital. Thanks for being such great supporters !
