Baikal Marathon (a journalism one, that is)

Posted on April 2, 2021April 2, 2021 by chris.brown

Earlier in March we filed a story on the extreme marathon they run across Lake Baikal. In the weeks since then, we’ve been doing our version of a journalistic marathon. Whenever you (ie: the CBC) spends some money to go somewhere far away or expensive, there is a strong incentive to wring as much content from the trip a possible. So with Baikal, in addition to the marathon story, we have been putting together a long documentary for CBC News: The National on how tourism is changing the lake. There is also a full length digital story and there’s a treatment for The World at Six on CBC Radio. So it’s a lot of stuff. Each platform is unique. Each medium has different readers, viewers or listeners who need the information presented in different ways. All of which is to say, whew, it has been a lot of work. But what a tremendous place to visit. Highly recommend it !!
