Talking Turkey

Posted on October 7, 2021October 7, 2021 by chris.brown

Britain is in the midst of a supply chain crisis. It’s hard to buy gas and a bunch of other stuff. So we went out to Danbury, about two hours from London to talk to a turkey farmer about what’s going on and when it will end. The short answer – this is the new normal. But the most interesting thing, I thought, was being able to mingle with the turkeys. In Canada, after several bouts of bird flu, it became almost impossible to get onto poultry farms without going through Level 4 decontamination. But in Danbury, there was no issue. We could mingle with the birds and get great photos. Why the discrepancy ? Well, the owner Paul Kelly said he believes the whole biosecurity thing is overdone because most domesticated birds get sick from wild birds that fly overhead. Makes sense.
